MapSherpa provides three base map options for you to choose from:
- topographic map – this base map matches closest with typical topographic maps, providing contours to show elevation changes
- terrain map – this base map uses shaded relief techniques to provide a dramatic 3D look to the terrain
- urban street map – this base map is best for urban areas where the focus is on the road network
