Canoeing Barron Canyon Day 3 – Opalescent Lake
As much fun as the area around Highfalls Lake was, it was our next destination - Opalescent Lake - that we looked forward to for it’s simple beauty and the relaxation it would bring. Getting there involved a couple of portages and canoeing through Ooze Lake. We would normally set out early so we could get as much time as possible at Opalescent Lake.
Opalescent Lake had a fabulous campsite located on a peninsula that jutted out into the middle of the lake from the south shore. In addition to the super swimming and scenic views, it was here we would enjoy the landings of what we figured must have beenAlgonquin Park’s (if not Canada’s) clumsiest loons. If only we had a camcorder then to capture the daily head over heels landings we enjoyed!
