Map of Livingstone River – Premier Alberta Fly Fishing

The Livingstone River is one of the headwaters of the Oldman river drainage system.  For 40 km it flows southward along the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains between two mountain ranges.

Geography

The Livingstone River gets its name from one of two Canadian Mount Livingstone’s which in turn were named by John Palliser in memory of the famed British explorer, David Livingstone.

The Livingstone River valley falls within the Livingstone-Porcupine region and is managed under the 1987 Livingstone Porcupine Hills Sub-Regional Integrated Resource Plan.  Management objectives of this plan include elements of watershed protection and enhancement, preservation of the nature landscape and wildlife species, protection of recreational resources, and maintenance of sustainable resource utilization.
