You have probably noticed the key window in the lower right corner of the map window. Its purpose is to give you a sense of context for the map you are creating. To do that a light red box representing your map window is superimposed on a small map showing a broader area. You can also use the red box to reposition your map window based by dragging ...

MapSherpa is sponsoring the upcoming Georgian Bay Storm Gathering in October - a season-ending event for intermediate level and instructor paddlers. Because of this we thought we would make the Georgian Bay the focus of our Topo Map of the Week.

Today we're starting a new feature in the MapSherpa blog - a weekly topographic map of a selected geography in Canada. This will include maps of highly unique geographies, maps of relevance to current events or news items, or maps of special places in Canada.

MapSherpa has an undocumented way to quickly zoom to a specific location. Hold down the shift key and the left mouse button as you drag the cursor across the map window. This will draw a dashed box on the map and when you release the shift and left mouse button the map will zoom to the extent defined by the box.

In the custom map making business - a lot of the rules of map making are changing.
We recently added two new templates to MapSherpa giving users the option to order large format maps from MapSherpa. The two new templates allow you to choose to have your map printed on paper or plastic pending on how you intend to use the maps. Plastic maps are ideal for outdoor activities ...

MapSherpa launch day has come and gone -- after all day 1 only happens once. With it has come some encouraging feedback. Other than a 10 minute hiatus where we pressed the wrong button leaving our database hung out to dry, the day went very smoothly. (Our apologies to anyone trying out MapSherpa between 10:40 and 10:50 AM Eastern on Monday!)
Of course we were particularly interested to hear ...
